Dr Leila Bukalo

Clinical Psychologist

Leila is a Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience providing individual and group-based therapy interventions to adults presenting with a variety of psychological difficulties. She is a warm and compassionate therapist who works collaboratively with her clients to achieve their desired life outcomes and enhance their quality of life.

Leila has specific interest working with trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder. She also provides treatment for depression, anxiety, interpersonal issues, personality and self-esteem issues, self-harm, emotion-regulation issues and significant events or life stressors. Leila adopts an integrative approach, drawing on a number of therapy models including Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy and Mindfulness.

Leila has experience working across both private and public health settings. Specifically, she has worked at Northside Clinic providing services to adults admitted the the mood disorder unit. In addition, she worked at the PTSD unit at St John of God Hospital in Richmond providing individual and group-based interventions for defence and emergency service personnel diagnosed with PTSD. In addition to her work at the Clinical Psychology Centre, Leila works at St George Hospital providing individual and group-based interventions to adults admitted to the mental health unit. She also conducts neuropsychological and personality assessments, and supervises provisional psychologists on university placement.

Leila completed a combined Bachelor of Health and Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) (Honours) degree at Macquarie University and a combined Doctor of Clinical Psychology and Master of Science at the University of Sydney. Her doctoral thesis explored the effectiveness of stress debriefing procedures for individuals exposed to traumatic events.
